Transforming Forensic Science Fiction into Stakeholder Satisfaction

Last November I won a “competition” with work that enabled me to create a blog and have it published on the intranet site so that I could respond to any comments and questions.

My blog addresses the issues around “the CSI effect” and how it can impact policing, and how it can also provide inspiration to those who seek to improve Forensic processes and technology.

The blog has now been published on the world wide web at http://npia.pressofficeadmin.com/index.php/news-service-guest-blog/444

As there is no facility to leave a comment or question on that page, then please feel free to comment here or on the NPIA Official Facebook Page.

By Hook or By Crook (an introduction)

The title of this blog is an English phrase that translates to “By whatever means possible – Be they fair or foul”, and although it’s origins are not fully understood a few theories can be found at http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/by-hook-or-by-crook.html

But as the Agency for which I work, the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) will cease to exist after 2012, I thought I would write a few themed blogs over the next 12 months on the estates that are currently occupied by the Agency; and the reason that I have chosen to title these blogs By Hook or By Crook, is because 2 of the more impressive sites are Bramshill (is close to a town called Hook, Hampshire) and Harperley Hall (which is near the town of Crook, County Durham).  The phrase also gives an idea to the dedication of the staff that work at the NPIA despite our limited lifespan; although I would hastily like to add that everything that I have witnessed has been by fair means.

As I have a year to complete these blogs, I will make use of any opportunity I have to visit any of these sites to conduct a little research, take a few photographs and then update my readership with any facts that you might find interesting.

The first blog will focus on Harperley Hall, where I am currently attending a Forensic Course.  I hope to finish this article in the next couple of weeks.

If you would like to know what locations are likely to be featured in these blogs, then a list of the NPIA sites can be found at http://www.npia.police.uk/en/5694.htm.
